Evanesca vs Venice AI: encrypted privacy modes, or models run in Europe
Venice AI and Evanesca both decline to keep your conversations, but they protect them in different ways. Venice AI, a US company, relays requests through its proxy without storing them, keeps your history on your device, and on its Pro plan adds hardware enclaves and end-to-end encryption, the latter unreadable even by Venice; it is also cheaper on most shared models — on DeepSeek V4 Flash, before VAT on both sides, Venice AI costs 73% less on input and 72% less on output. Evanesca relies on where, and by whom, the model runs: its 17 models run in Europe — most in France, with French operators — and every answer names them.

Four privacy modes, or routes set in advance
Venice AI sorts every model into one of four modes source:
- Anonymous: the request goes to a frontier model provider with your identity hidden, and, in Venice's words, “you should assume the provider is storing your content”.
- Private, the default: inference runs “on Venice-controlled GPUs or zero-data-retention partner infrastructure”, with no prompt or response stored, enforced by contract.
- TEE, on Pro: inference inside a hardware enclave run by partners, verified by remote attestation, so the GPU operator cannot see prompts.
- E2EE, on Pro: the prompt is encrypted on your device and decrypted only inside a verified enclave; Venice says no one, itself included, can see it.
« Your conversation history stays on your device. Venice never stores it on its servers. »
Evanesca sets each model's route in advance, all in Europe: the request goes to its operator — Scaleway or OVHcloud in France, Mistral AI in its EU region, AKI.IO in Germany or Infomaniak in Switzerland — or, if that operator fails, to a European fallback operator set just as far in advance; it is held in memory while the answer is written, and is not stored by Evanesca, which keeps billing data only — tokens and cost. OVHcloud keeps “only the data required for billing purposes” source; Scaleway may keep and read requests that cause errors or look abusive, for up to 14 days source; Mistral AI keeps its models' inputs and outputs 30 days to monitor abuse source. There is no enclave and no end-to-end encryption: the operator processes your words in clear, under the law of its country.
Prices on the models both serve
Each Venice AI row carries its privacy mode, as Venice's API price list tags it.
| Model | Venice AI, before tax | Evanesca, VAT included | Evanesca, before VAT | Cheaper, before tax |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Llama 3.3 70B | $0.70 / $2.80 (Private) source | €1.512 / €1.512 | €1.26 / €1.26 | Input: Venice AI, −51% · Output: Evanesca, −49% |
| GPT-OSS 120B | $0.13 / $0.65 (E2EE) source | €0.252 / €1.008 | €0.21 / €0.84 | Input: Venice AI, −45% · Output: Venice AI, −31% |
| Mistral Small 3.2 | $0.09 / $0.25 (Private) source | €0.252 / €0.588 | €0.21 / €0.49 | Input: Venice AI, −62% · Output: Venice AI, −55% |

| GLM-5.2 | $1.40 / $4.40 (Private) source | €3.024 / €9.24 | €2.52 / €7.70 | Input: Venice AI, −51% · Output: Venice AI, −49% |
| Qwen3.5 397B | $0.75 / $4.50 (Anonymized) source | €1.008 / €6.048 | €0.84 / €5.04 | Input: Venice AI, −21% · Output: Venice AI, −21% |
Venice AI publishes its prices in US dollars, before tax; Evanesca's are in euros, margin and 20% VAT included. So the verdict compares both before tax: Evanesca's price divided by 1.2, and the dollar converted at the ECB reference rate of 6 October 2026, 1 EUR = 1.1269 USD (ECB). A gap under 2% names no winner. One caveat: Venice's API price page gives US dollars without saying whether VAT is included, and its terms charge sums “including all applicable taxes” (section 6.2) source. The comparison reads Venice's rates as before tax; that is our reading, not Venice's statement.
Venice AI is cheaper on both input and output for 5 of these 6. On GPT-OSS 120B, where Venice's row is its end-to-end encrypted version, Venice AI costs 45% less on input and 31% less on output; on Llama 3.3 70B, Venice AI costs 51% less on input, while Evanesca costs 49% less on output. Venice's paid plans also bundle API credit, which changes the sums if you already pay for one source.
Jurisdiction: what encryption changes, and what it does not
Venice.ai is a US company, with its terms governed by the laws of Wyoming source. Its privacy page explains who runs each mode but not in which countries the GPUs sit source. The US CLOUD Act lets US authorities require a provider under US jurisdiction to disclose data in its “possession, custody, or control”, wherever it is stored source.
Encryption changes what such an order could obtain. If Venice stores no history, and in E2EE mode cannot read the prompt at all, there is little for Venice to hand over. That is a real protection, and a technical one: it relies on the enclaves and on Venice's partners honouring their contracts, which Venice itself lists as the trust assumption of its Private mode.
Evanesca's protection is of another kind: a short, fixed route through European companies with no US parent — out of the CLOUD Act's direct reach — and no copy kept by Evanesca. It does not encrypt the prompt end to end. The sovereignty page lists who controls each operator, and the passport under each answer states the route that was taken.
Where Venice AI is the better choice
- End-to-end encryption and hardware enclaves, with attestation you can verify, available today; on Evanesca, an end-to-end encrypted mode is planned source.
- Lower prices on most open models both serve (table above).
- A much wider catalogue, including closed frontier models in Anonymous mode, plus video, music and speech as well as images source.
- A free plan with daily limits, and history kept on your device rather than on a server source.
- It runs today; Evanesca has not opened yet.
If your threat is the provider itself, Venice's E2EE mode answers it more directly than any no-storage promise.
Where Evanesca fits better
- The company, the place and the law are named for every model run in Europe: European operators, most of them in France sovereignty.
- An Agent mode that carries out a whole task — web search, Word, PDF and Excel documents, images — within a spending cap you set, and never runs code Agent mode.
- No subscription: pay per use in euros, VAT included, with credit that never expires pricing.
- A passport under every answer, recording the model, operator, country, law and what was kept passport.
- For companies: a signed Art. 28 DPA, the sub-processor list with notice before any change business.
- Every model shows its checks before you use it, and the checks are public benchmarks.
Both offer an OpenAI-compatible API; Evanesca's covers chat completions, the model list, embeddings and images docs.
How to choose
- You want the provider unable to read your prompt: Venice AI's E2EE mode.
- You need to show where data was processed, by which company and under which law, for example to a data protection officer: the models Evanesca runs in Europe, and their passports.
- You want the most models for the least money: Venice AI.
The two can also be combined: encrypted modes for private, unregulated use, and the models Evanesca runs in Europe for work data that must stay under European law.

Frequently asked questions
Is Venice AI more private than Evanesca?
It depends on what you need protection from. Venice's E2EE mode keeps the prompt unreadable even to Venice, today; on Evanesca, such a mode is planned. Evanesca's models run in Europe with European operators, out of the CLOUD Act's direct reach, and Evanesca keeps no copy of your messages; Venice is a US company, and its privacy page does not say where its GPUs are.
Is Venice AI cheaper than Evanesca?
On most models both serve, yes. Before VAT on both sides: on DeepSeek V4 Flash, Venice AI costs 73% less on input and 72% less on output; on GPT-OSS 120B, Venice AI costs 45% less on input and 31% less on output. Prices read on 6 October 2026.
Where does Venice AI run its models?
Venice's privacy page names who runs them — its own GPUs or zero-retention partners in Private mode, enclave partners in TEE and E2EE modes, frontier providers in Anonymous mode — but not the countries.
Does Evanesca offer end-to-end encryption?
Not yet: today the operator processes your words in clear, in Europe, to write the answer, and Evanesca keeps no copy; an end-to-end encrypted mode is planned. If you need end-to-end encryption now, Venice AI's E2EE mode provides it.
